How to > Podcasting in 4 easy steps

What is Podcasting? Simply put, podcasting is making an audio recording available on the Internet, so it can be downloaded and listened to on a MP3 player or computer. Podcast listeners receive the recording by subscribing to a RSS feed or by downloading the recording from a website. Evoca Express is making it easier than ever to podcast by automatically creating the RSS feed and individual web address for you. So all you need to do is sign up for an account, make a recording and share your podcast with the world!

Let's Get Started!

With Evoca Express, create a podcast in 4 easy steps: Sign up, Set up, Record, Share

  1. Sign Up: Sign up for an Evoca Express account. Your Evoca Express account provides an area to organize your podcast recordings. You have a unique web address (it looks like this: http://www.evoca.com/your-username) and a RSS feed (it looks like this: http://www.evoca.com/your-username.rss) automatically created for your "My Recordings" - you won't have to call your cousin-the-computer-science-major. The RSS feed or the web address is all that your loyal listeners need to subscribe to your podcast.

  2. Set up: . This is an optional step, but one we highly recommend. Not only does a group make it easy to organize your podcast recordings, you can choose which recordings you want to share. Have more than one topic you are passionate about? Multiple groups equal multiple podcasts.

Each group is automatically assigned a unique web address (it looks like this, http://www.evoca.com/groups/groupname) and RSS feed (it looks like this, http://www.evoca.com/groups/groupname.rss). It's the RSS feed or the web address that you pass along to your listeners. Want to know more about creating groups and their privacy levels? Click here.

We enthusiastically recommend a Semi-Public group for your podcast so you handle the recording and everyone can listen! Then you can decide to invite "guest podcasters" - your favorite people - along with their opinions, expertise and humor . . . whatever tone you want to create in your podcast.

Tip - Remember those categories you chose to describe your group? Those categories help anyone looking for a specific topic find your podcast - from anywhere around the world.

  3. Record: If you're sitting at your computer , capture your voice using  Browser Mic™, our in-browser recorder: On the road? Phone in a recording from your cell phone or if you're on a long-distance trip and don't want to use your cell plan minutes, use your Skype™ account (available for Professional members only). Or if you have an existing recording, upload it in one click. Voila! You've created podcast "content"! Don't forget to add the recording to your group, if you set up a group for your podcast.

  4. Share: Send an e-mail invitation to spread the word through your podcast  - choose either or both methods, through #1 your instant RSS feed or #2 your ready-made link. You can share your group's RSS feed. This option is best if you want your listeners to be notified the moment you create a new recording. By subscribing to the RSS feed, each time you add a recording it will automatically be downloaded to your listener's computer. And when they sync their iPod or MP3 player with an audio manager like iTunes™, your recordings will be automatically uploaded for listening on the go. Picture your best friend walking down the streets of Hong Kong listening to your latest opinion about, well … music you like (anything by India Arie), politicians whose every move you're tracking (Arnold Schwarzenegger), movies you just saw (phone in from the lobby of the movie theater!), news from your hometown (your high school coach was just recruited by the NBA . . .)

    -or-

You can share your account's unique web address. Try this option if you don't want your listener to be automatically updated with your recordings. Be sure to invite them back to the website each time you make a recording or ask them to check your website periodically to download newly added recordings. Your brother is sitting there, bored as all get-out in his Dilbert cubicle. Ping! He gets an email with a link to your latest poem about your new puppy dog. Or maybe it's something more serious - some news from some friends who are on a mission in Haiti. Or you're an expert on a new field of science, and you want to reach out to colleagues around the world.
Here's a sample e-mail message to get people listening!

"Hello [ ],

Here's an invitation to subscribe to my Evoca Express Podcast [Podcast name]. I'd really like to share my recordings with you. Please paste the RSS feed http://www.evoca.com/groups/groupname.rss into your favorite "podcatcher" (iTunes, Doppler, iPodder). As I add new recordings, you'll be automatically updated with new episodes.
