FAQs
How does Evoca Enterprise™ work?
Evoca Enterprise™ is the best way to get interesting new audio content on your websites and blogs. Evoca's Voice-to-Web services are delivered as Software-as-a-Service (SaaS). This approach makes it easy to benefit from all of its features without having to install, upgrade, or maintain software or acquire and manage telephone services.
Delivered as a web service, all of the Voice-to-Web technology is run by us -- letting you focus on what you do best. Simply use our enterprise-class media platform with applications that you configure and change at any time. Your users create voice recordings, and then we deliver the audio wherever and whenever you want it to appear --- use our API to do it or just copy/paste the HTML code we auto-generate for you. You can make the Flash widgets viral by sharing the HTML code with your marketing partners or the public. You also can embed your banner ads or promotional messages in the headers and footers to increase your ROI.
What are typical customer applications?
If you've ever wanted to let your website visitors contribute content in their own voices, you are going to make that happen with Evoca. You may already let your users add photos and text, but what about voice? Imagine how you could add value to your web property by inviting your visitors to make voice recordings from any phone --- landline or mobile, any time. With over 4 billion mobile phones in use worldwide, you will leverage the phone --- the most convenient, affordable content creation tool, ever. We like to say, "Make Voice a Choice™".
There are hundreds of "use cases" and scores of recent success stories. Some compelling examples include travel sites that gather audio reviews from travelers on- the-go, media, sports, and entertainment companies that engage the passion of avid fans and first-person reporters; cause marketing and nonprofit organizations that encourage involvement leading to membership sign-ups and donations; political campaigns that encourage supporters' participation and contributions through "speaking" their minds; sales organizations that capture field reports and meetings with virtual teams; eLearning and language training organizations that offer instructor-student interaction; and professional groups that want to share expertise from global conferences.
Can people leave voice recordings on my website?
Yes, this is one of the main reasons why organizations use Evoca. We discovered the need for a simple way for digital media professionals to enable users to add their voices to online communities and properties. For example, as the interactive producer of a television series, your job is to engage your fans offline to online. With Evoca you can give your fans the opportunity to record comments and questions for the "talent" to answer; we stream it online for you. This attracts your fans to make recordings and then go online frequently to listen to the latest recordings. Another example - you have a dating site, and you want to let your members post to audio profiles and leave each other voice messages. You can accomplish this with Evoca Enterprise™ as a premium service and or simply to keep your site competitive.
How flexible is the platform?
The Evoca Enterprise™ platform is built to make it very easy for you to integrate digital media recordings into your web applications. Its foundation is our RESTful HTTP API (application programming interface), so your application simply makes an API call to our media platform, and retrieves customized players and recorders and related data. We've structured it so that you can decide how the recordings are created (phone, in-browser recorder, Skype™, and uploads), exactly which recordings you want to display (stream through a Flash player), and precisely where you want the players to appear online.
We provide the technology - it's up to you how you want to use it. Use Evoca Enterprise™ to integrate Flash players or just copy/paste the HTML code we auto-generate for you. You can make the Flash widgets viral by sharing the HTML code with your marketing partners or the public. You also can embed your banner ads or promotional messages in the headers and footers to increase your ROI. Configuring phone applications, including call patterns, save menus, voice prompts, PIN and security code set-ups are all available to you on a self-service basis.

How do people create audio recordings by phone?
They simply call the dedicated phone number provided to you by Evoca - landline, mobile or Skype™. They will hear your custom welcome greeting and then speak. These phone numbers will point straight to your application so that recordings are immediately posted in MP3 format to your account. You can keep them "private" while screening them and then publish them as "public" recordings when you're ready. Or make them instantly available in your Flash player as they are created. It's all up to you.
We offer toll-free numbers in 19 countries, including the US and UK. and local (geographic) phone numbers in over 45 countries and more than 4,000 cities. Local and toll-free numbers for additional countries are added regularly, so just ask.
How many simultaneous phone recordings can Evoca handle?
As many as your program or campaign requires. Each toll-free number comes with 50 "channels" - each channel can handle one call, so that's 50 concurrent calls. Each local (geographic) phone number comes with one channel, handling one call at a time. We can add more channels for both toll-free and local phone numbers. We calculate and set up the appropriate capacity you need, including just for peak periods.
Do all the phone recordings go through your servers, or can we manage it?
All phone traffic must go through our phone numbers and lines. You may, however, use your own number and forward it to the one provided by us that is integrated into the Evoca system.
How long does it take to set up the phone and trunk lines?
For toll-free numbers, we set them up in 3-5 (U.S.) business days. We also offer custom ("vanity") toll-free phone numbers. For local (geographic) phone numbers, if the country, area code and city are in stock, the phone number is acquired and set-up 2-3 (U.S.) business days. Let us know your requirements and we'll make it happen.
What does phone service cost?
You receive one initial phone number with each Evoca Enterprise™ license you acquire - toll-free or local (geographic). You can acquire additional toll-free and local (geographic) phone numbers at any time for a monthly service fee per phone number. Toll-free numbers also have a per-minute charge. Local phone numbers include an unlimited number of incoming calls.
How do the Flash players work?
Flash players are the ideal vehicles to deliver your recorded audio. Your website visitors click the player to listen to the streamed audio without leaving your web pages and without any annoying software downloads. Recordings are securely stored on our servers, which frees up your network resources for other tasks. We provide a Flash player widget so you can design your player to meet your branding, size, color, and player behavior requirements.
You can build and embed an unlimited number of players. Players can also include your banner ads, promotional messages, and links in the HTML headers and footers. These player widgets can be made viral since we auto-generate HTML embed code for you; you can share it with partners or publicly. RSS feeds can be set up for any player so that your audience can get notified of new audio content instantly.
Can I customize the Flash players?
Yes. You can customize your Flash player with your colors, branding, sizes, and unique style. Create single recording players ("talking photos"), playlists, and audio slide shows.
Can I stream the recordings to my own players or other applications?
Yes. While most of our users choose to use Evoca-provided player creation and playback (streaming) through these players, we provide a "feed" that you can direct to your own players or other applications.
What is the Flash recorder (EvocaMic™)?
EvocaMic™ is our in-browser Flash recorder technology that lets your users record their voices directly through their browser using their computer microphone. Visitors don't have to download any software to do it. We auto-generate the HTML code for you; you just copy/paste it into your web page. They simply click on "Record" button on your designated web page and we take care of the rest. The recording is instantly saved on our servers, available to you to screen, tag, and publish. Our recorder is Flash-based, so 99% of all Internet users will be ready to record right away.
Can I customize the in-browser Flash recorder?
Yes. You can customize your in-browser recorder with your colors, branding, sizes, and unique style to fit your web page design and dimensions.
Does the in-browser Flash recorder cost more?
No. The in-browser Flash recorder is included in every Evoca Enterprise™ license. You can embed an unlimited number of recorders in as many web and blog pages as you wish.
Can I upload recordings produced off-line?
Yes. An upload function is included. You can also invite your users to upload WAV or MP3 recordings.
Can I edit recordings?
You can download a recording into your editing software, edit it, and then re-upload for publishing it online.
Who owns and controls the recordings?
All recordings belong to the copyright owner and not to Evoca. The owner may be the operator of the web property or a third party known to the web owner. The use of the recordings is completely controlled by you.
How much recording storage and bandwidth (streaming) do I get?
Each license comes with a generous amount of combined monthly recording file storage and bandwidth for playbacks. We also provide a tiered pricing schedule for additional capacity.
