No shortage of World Cup Sounds!

June 30, 2006 in Uncategorized by admin  |  No Comments

world cup flags

Victory is sweet no matter what language you speak. We have watched as teams like [tag]Serbia[/tag], [tag]USA[/tag], and [tag]Japan[/tag] have been eliminated while teams such as [tag]France[/tag], [tag]Brazil[/tag], and the [tag]Ukraine[/tag] have found their way to the Quarterfinals. And now with those Quarterfinals beginning today the sounds of pride and victory have come streaming in at Evoca.

One member in particular, Elbar, has provided us with the music of the Italian team (1990), Mexico (1986), and this years [tag]Alemania[/tag] squad. Please keep sending them. There is no sound quite like the cheers of a [tag]world cup[/tag] enthusiast!

World Cup 2006

FIFA

By now we all know that every four years the world stops what it is doing and begins to focus on one thing; the Word Cup. Held in [tag]Germany[/tag] this year [tag]World Cup[/tag] is the mother of all international soccer competitions. It is comprised of national teams representing 32 countries (increased from 24 following the 1994 World Cup); 30 teams qualify in competitions with automatic bids going to the past champion and host nation. Beyond even that though there are literally millions and millions of fans, each with a voice about their team! In the past couple of weeks we have heard praises from fans, criticisms towards coaches, podcasts with results, and team chants being recorded on Evoca. One newspaper, El Comercio, in [tag]Ecuador[/tag], has even taken to posting Evoca recordings about the Ecuadorian team on their front page. Take a listen…..

the Mosquito Ringtone…on Evoca!

June 20, 2006 in Uncategorized by admin  |  No Comments

There’s an old game we here at Evoca like to play. It’s called ‘telephone’. Basically a few people stand in a line and one-by-one they pass a short phrase to each other through whispers. By the time the message makes it to the end of the row, it has changed so drastically that no one can stop laughing long enough to find out how it began. Well, we are pretty sure that is the case with the [tag]Mosquito Ringtone[/tag]. In the past two or three days we have heard ‘em all. We have heard that the tone began when a group of English teenagers kept getting busted for having their text alert go off in class. We have heard that it began when a Tokyo shopkeeper created a box that would make a high-frequency only people under 20 years old could hear. The pitch was so painful it kept the kids from loitering. We have even heard that the tone was created when someones cell phone fell in the water and when rescued started making this incredibly high pitched sound ([tag]17-kilohertz[/tag] to be exact). Whatever the case, the [tag]Mosquito[/tag] [tag]Ringtone[/tag] has hit the world and it has hit hard. This could, however, be the first of these pesky bugs to bite you that you might not mind so much. And if that is the case (and you are looking to download this tone), you can find the tone here on Evoca. Just follow this link, click on the title, and download the MP3.

If you are just wondering what all the “buzz” is about though….click the play button below and prepare to start swatting at your ears!

Guy Kawasaki gives Evoca the nod of approval!

[tag]Guy Kawasaki[/tag], one of the world’s top 100 bloggers, [tag]venture capitalist[/tag] and author has posted about [tag]Evoca[/tag] today on his blog. Senator Harry Reid delivers one at the Yearly Kos

yearly kos
It was our pleasure tonight to attend the [tag]YearlyKos[/tag] meeting in [tag]Las Vegas[/tag] and hear a keynote address by Senate Minority Leader “Give ‘em Hell” [tag]Harry Reid[/tag] (D-NV) as well as capture it on audio HERE

Known for his past platforms such as ‘Training Teachers in Technology’, the’Democratic High Tech Working Group’, the ‘Defense Appropriations’ bill, and the more recent ‘Iran Intelligence Oversight Act’, [tag]Senator Reid[/tag] has long been known for his aggressiveness in the technology and defense fields.

As many of you well know, the yearly Kos convention is billed as the first-ever national meeting of the online progressive community. One of the reasons I was so anxious to be a part of this address tonight is the candor and respect given to the blogging community by Senator Reid himself. “I do believe that each day, they have more impact…one of the reasons I so admire them is they have the ability to spread the truth like no entities I’ve dealt with in recent years.”

Please feel free to use this recording (either by link or by embedding the HTML from Evoca.com) in your own posting or blog. It was a great night and I would love to share it with as many bloggers as possible. Our voices are being heard!

PS…if you just want to listen…here is the recording!

Are you considered?

Some of you may have noticed that there is a new listing on the profiles of others (as well as your own). That’s right. In part of our effort to better connect you with the Evoca Community we have added a new listing that tells you how many people consider you/him/her a contact. It is a clickable and actually shows those aforementioned contacts.

I have it on good authority that could be part of something very, very BIG!

Georgia Southern played host to Evoca on June 6 by allowing some of us to come in and talk about Evoca and how it may apply to the collegiate world. It was a good time and with a bit of pizza afterwards, proved to be quite an event. A special thanks goes out to the students and professor for sharing some time with us and telling us how they see Evoca fitting into their world. If you want to hear some of the recordings made by the students in the Focus Group, feel free to check out Georgia Southern on Evoca!

Just yesterday we reported that a member of the Evoca community, Japhet, was out at the southcentral farm speaking with people and interviewing them about a host of topics concerning the farm and the cities plan for that area. This morning a recording came in from Japhet. In this clip he is interviewing [tag]Alicia Silverstone[/tag] about “environmental community” and the farms example to both LA and the world. Keep ‘em coming, Japhet….

Save the Garden….in Los Angeles

farmers

Sometimes it is the words not spoken that are the loudest. These voices come not from the politicos or the spin doctors or the press agents but rather from normal men and women. And so it is that located within the south central section of [tag]Los Angeles[/tag] are the voices of some of these people.

Many of us are simply unaware that the nation’s largest and most established urban farm is not only in one of our nations most populated areas but that it is being threatened with eviction and development by one of the wealthiest real estate developers in the same location. There are over 350 families, mostly immigrants, who rely on the farm for their food supply and their small family businesses selling fresh produce to the local neighborhood. For the last 13 years these families have farmed the 14 acre plots on the corner of [tag]Alameda[/tag] and 41st.

As witnessed by a member of the [tag]Evoca[/tag] community, [tag]Japhet Els[/tag], “the farm is incredible. The people are even more amazing. 4 cooks make fresh meals all day and all of it from the farm itself. The community is looking for support in many ways. If you’re in the area, come on down and visit. Lend a hand. If you’re not, you can donate on the website.”

Japhet has taken to the farm and enabled all of us to share in this experience and hear the voices of these farmers. If you want to know more about the farm you can visit their website or you can contact Japhet through his blog.
